PLACES-snowgoosesignMany, many people know about it. Newspapers such as the Seattle Post Intelligencer write about it. Publications like Sunset Magazine feature it. Tourists make it an integral part of their annual trek to see the tulips. And don’t forget the locals – we all know about it, and yes, we’ve been there!
It’s the Snow Goose Produce. And it is a wonderful vegetable and fruit market on Fir Island Road a couple miles west of Conway. Most of their vegetables are grown organically right on the market premises. You can see Viko and Erica out there regularly working along the road in a narrow stretch of cultivated rich Fir Island dirt, tending to their crops. I’ve bought lettuce there so big it wouldn’t fit into a shopping bag!

They also have a variety of local fresh fruits such as blueberries, strawberries and raspberries, among other choices. Locally made goods line the shelves – from jams to pickles, fresh bread and smoked seafood. And those Silvana Meats Landsjaggers – yum!!
Locals make it a quick stop for items including fresh farm eggs and items for an evening’s dinner. Bicycles make it a stop along their ride, and it is also a great stop to grab some snacks for hiking along waterways or bird watching along the Skagit River.

Viko has some great fresh seafood, from fresh live oysters, crabs and clams, to his wonderful halibut. An interesting wine and beer selection is available, as well as cheeses, gifts and spring vegetable and flowers starts. There’s something for everyone!
Pick any time to go. You’ll find something to please you – maybe even a great homemade cookie or brownie!

Oh, yes, the ice cream! Snow Goose has developed a reputation over the years as having the largest ice cream cones around – or as they refer to it on one of their roadside signs approaching the market – “immodest ice cream cones”! The Snow Goose Produce Market website says, “Specialty ice cream from Lopez Island Creamery, made with all-whole all-real ingredients. The bulk of our 48 flavors are from another local source, Cascade Glacier in Eugene, OR. Served on our very own handmade waffle cones, our immodest cones are famous worldwide!”

In the summer, there are lines of customers eagerly waiting for their turn for what seems like a pound of ice cream piled high on a fresh waffle cone. And since the waffle cones are made there, the sweet aroma is hypnotizing to your senses.
So, stop by the Snow Goose and get a cone. There are plenty of places to sit and enjoy. Say hello to Viko and Erica from us, and see if you can finish your ice cream!
